Our Story
APOKRA was founded to help people take a proactive approach to their health. We believe that practical, ethical and effective supplements are essential for long-term wellbeing and prevention.
Founded in England by brothers Matthew and Max Hanson, both qualified pharmacists, APOKRA continues their grandfather’s legacy, who began creating and selling his own health products in the 1950s (pictured below):
Their personal journey also shaped APOKRA’s purpose. The death of their father from cancer, likely linked to smoking, inspired them to work towards promoting healthy lifestyles. Through their pharmacy careers they saw first-hand that primary prevention is essential. Preventing disease through better nutrition and habits is far more powerful than waiting until medication is needed. This philosophy aligns closely with the NHS focus on prevention and wellbeing.
The Founders
Matthew Hanson is a registered pharmacist with over 15 years of experience across the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical industries. His focus on evidence-based formulations ensures every APOKRA product is both effective and safe.
Max Hanson, also a pharmacist, brings together his clinical background with a strong drive to innovate and make high-quality nutrition accessible to everyone. Together, the brothers lead APOKRA with a shared commitment to integrity and family values.
Innovation at the Heart of What We Do
APOKRA introduced the first vegan algae oil omega-3 DHA liquid to the UK market, providing a pure, sustainable alternative to traditional fish oil supplements. This makes our vegan omega-3 a compelling choice for children, adults and families alike.
We were also the first to combine algae omega-3 with lysine into a tablet form with a natural vanilla coating for improved taste and better absorption. In addition, APOKRA developed a prenatal and postnatal tablet with vegan omega-3, helping reduce tablet load for mothers while providing essential nutrients from pre-conception through breastfeeding and beyond.

Our packaging is designed with purpose and personality. Each APOKRA Kids product pack features playful icons such as tennis balls, bicycles and rockets to celebrate movement, curiosity and healthy living. The tennis ball icon is deeply personal: it honours our father, who took us to play tennis as children, showing us how hobbies and activity can inspire good habits and lifelong health.
